Performance Monitoring
A key concern of the Regulator is the performance of the water and sewerage industry in Tasmania. The Regulator aims to ensure that the interests of customers are not compromised by below standard service from the monopoly suppliers in the State. Public reporting is a powerful incentive for the industry to maintain and improve performance.
The Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008 requires the Regulator to prepare a State of the Industry Report each year examining the performance of the Tasmanian water and sewerage industry. The Report is to be published on or before 1 April each year and tabled in the Parliament within seven sitting days of its finalisation.
In preparing the Report, the Regulator is required to consult with the Director of Public Health, the Director of the Environment Protection Authority and the Department of Primary Industries and Water.
The objective of the Report is to publicly assess the performance of licensed providers of water and sewerage services.
The SOIR includes an overview of the performance of the water and sewerage industry and identifies key priorities for improved performance of the industry.
The licensed entities will report against those items required under the Performance Reporting Guideline which will be issued by the Regulator.
On 1 April 2009 the Regulator published the Tasmanian Water and Sewerage State of the Industry Report 2007-08 which focuses on the pre-reform environment and measures the performance of Tasmania’s three bulk water authorities and 29 local councils in providing water and sewerage services across the State. The report provides a comprehensive review of the performance and sustainability of the Tasmanian water and sewerage industry.
The range and quality of data presented in annual State of the Industry Reports is expected to improve over time as the service standard policy framework is resolved and appropriate data collection systems are put in place. |
