Electricity - Performance
A key concern of the Regulator is the performance of the electricity supply industry in Tasmania. The Regulator aims to ensure that the interests of customers are not compromised by a low standard of service from the monopoly suppliers in the State. Public reporting is a powerful incentive for the industry to maintain and improve performance.
The Tasmanian Electricity Code imposes a requirement on each licensed entity to provide annual and/or quarterly reports to the Regulator on the entity’s performance against agreed standards, indicators and targets. The Office reviews these and, each year, compiles information from these reports into a comprehensive report of the performance of the electricity supply industry. This annual Energy Supply Industry Performance Report is a key source of information on the industry structure, its recent performance and future outlook.
From time to time specific aspects of industry performance are reviewed or investigated by the Office. Reports of these investigations and reviews are publicly available.
Major Incidents causing loss of power to consumers, are closely monitored. Reports on the causes and consequential action are also publicly available.
An important obligation on all entities in Tasmania is the requirement, on the request of the Regulator, for an independent review of entities' management plans and internal processes, through the engagement of an Independent Appraiser, to ensure the integrity of performance reports provided to the Regulator and to give the Regulator confidence that good electricity industry practice is being applied. |
